Tooth Whitening Trays
If you flick through a magazine at your local shop the chances are you will see on nearly every page a person with gleaming white teeth that are perfectly straight. In reality we all know that often teeth aren’t like this, but it doesn’t seem that way when you watch the TV or read the newspaper! Luckily there are ways of getting whiter teeth and one of the most common are teeth whitening trays.
So how do they work? Basically over the counter whitening trays are a bit like mouth guards that fit over the teeth. They then have a bleaching agent inside them – usually hydrogen peroxide – which bleaches your teeth. However if you are getting over the counter trays then they won’t be that great because the trays aren’t made to fit your mouth.
However you can also get custom tooth whitening trays which are fitted to your mouth. These are more effective than the regular ones, and over the long term will be more cost effective even if they are more expensive to begin with because you will have to use them less as they are more effective.
Teeth whitening bleaching trays are much cheaper than if you were to go to a professional dentist to get your teeth cleaned, but on the other hand they aren’t as effective. While both usually use the same material – hydrogen peroxide – the dentist will be able to use much higher concentrations on the teeth. You can get normal teeth whitening trays for around $15, but you may or may not have to buy the bleaching agent separately. If you buy a custom tray then it will be more expensive of course. And you will also have to buy teeth whitening gel for trays if you want to use them repeatedly.
Overall teeth whitening trays are a good option if you don’t have the money for professional whitening but still would like whiter teeth. They are much more cost effective than going to the dentist, but won’t provide the same level of results. Make sure you always follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly because if you leave the tray on for too long it may damage your teeth. Each tray wand bleaching agent will require a different amount of time so make sure you pay careful attention to this and if you have any doubts about it contact your dentist before using it.
