The Teeth Whitening Process

If you have decided that you want to get whiter teeth, and you want to get it done the most effective way by going to see a dentist, then you are probably interested in knowing exactly what the teeth whitening process is. What will happen once you get to the dentist? Will it hurt? What are the things that could possibly go wrong? In this article we will be talking about a few of these things, but if you really want to get an in-depth explanation you should ask your dentist who will be able to advise you on specific things that may go wrong or may be important in your procedure.

First of all it is important to remember that the teeth whitening process will vary depending on which dentist you are using, and what treatment that you are getting. The process of teeth whitening isn’t set in stone, and there are also different methods that dentist might use.

The method that most dentists use is to whiten the teeth by using high concentration hydrogen peroxide solution. Because of this, all dentists will provide you with some sort of protective gear for your gums and lips. This is really important because if the high concentration peroxide get onto your gums or other parts of your skin then you may get burned.

Once the gums have been shielded, the hydrogen peroxide solution is put on the teeth and then left there for a certain amount of time depending on how strong the solution is. Usually the whole process doesn’t take too long, but you have to go back several times for different whitening to make sure that you get the full effect. Also in most cases after around three years you have to get the whitening re-done, so make sure you understand this and know that it is going to happen so that when you do have to get your teeth redone it doesn’t come as a  massive shock.
