The cost of dental implant procedures

If you ask me, dental implants are a fantastic invention and one of the best advances in dental science in recent years. However the problem is that they can cost a lot of money, and like anything to do with dental care if you have a lot of treatment the cost can simply run out of control. In this article we will talk a little bit about getting an implant, as well as coping with the cost of dental implant procedures.

It is important to know exactly what you will get for your money. If you are getting a single tooth replaced, then you’ll usually get a titanium screw that it fitted surgically into the bone of the jaw. The reason that this is so expensive is because it requires a whole team of professionals to do the surgery, and you would usually need quite a bit of after-care, so the whole procedure will cost a lot of money for the dentist and hence for you. However, the good thing about a dental implant is that it will usually last for the rest of your life if you look after it well, so it should just be a one-off payment.

If you want to get a single implant you will usually have to pay anywhere up to around $3000, but this can become a lot more very quickly if you need a more complex operation.

The greatest problem with the cost of a dental implant is that in most cases the insurance company won’t cover it because they consider it to be cosmetic dentistry. Even if to you it may seem like it isn’t cosmetic dentistry because you really need a dental implant, the insurance company is unlikely to see it this way. However it is always worth ringing them to see - just in case!

Overall, the average cost of dental implant surgery is usually around $3000, and while this is a lot of money you have to remember that although the crown will usually have to be replaced the implant itself should last the rest of your life. If you don’t think you can afford the costs of dental implants then you may be able to work out a deal with your dentist to spread out the payments over a longer period of time so you don’t have to find the money all in one go.
