What Is Teeth Bonding?

Teeth bonding is the procedure used to fill in or reconstruct broken or chipped teeth. It can also be used to fill in gaps in teeth too, so it is quite a versatile tool for the dentist. In this article I’ll be talking a bit about what actually happens during the teeth bonding procedure. Remember that there are usually two types – cosmetic teeth bonding and non-cosmetic depending on whether you have to have the tooth bonding or whether it is just for your own aesthetic reasons. In most cases it will be the former, so you should check with your dental insurance whether they will cover it.

Usually a mild solution is put on the surface of the tooth with the aim of making small troughs in the tooth structure. This allows the bonding material to then bond to the tooth much easier. Usually a laser beam is used to make sure that the resin has bonded to the tooth successfully. It should become hard in just a few minutes so you probably won’t have to spend too long in the dentist chair which is a bonus if you are like my! Dental teeth bonding usually doesn’t take that long.

However you won’t just have one layer applied to the teeth but several. Once they have all been put on the tooth it is then made to be the correct shape for whatever reason the dentist is using on you.

Usually the dentist will be able to pick a shade of the resin used and make sure that it matches your teeth colour. It may take a bit longer than getting a filling but not too long – the whole thing will take about an hour although this will vary depending on which dentist you go to and how much work you need to have done.

The teeth bonding cost also varies from around $300 up to $500 or more for a single tooth. It depends on where in the country you live as well as the qualifications of the dentist that you are using to do it. It is always a good idea to get the best dentist that you can afford so that you can be as sure as possible that the job will be done correctly.
