What Causes Jaw Pain

A common problem can be jaw pain for many people, and it is often something that we tend to ignore and just think it will go away soon. However jaw pain can be caused by many things, and you should always visit your doctor to get checked out as soon as you get jaw pain – partly because seeing a doctor or dentist will nearly always get the problem fixed quicker and partly because jaw pain can sometimes be caused by more serious problems that need to be addressed quickly.
First of all some definitions. Lots of different things can cause jaw pain, and in general they are divided into two different categories. Primary jaw pain is pain that is being caused by something in the haw. If you have pain in jaw that is being caused by a problem elsewhere in the body then this is called secondary jaw pain.
The causes of jaw pain can be many and varied which is why it’s important to visit a doctor. However, an obvious one is a trauma injury to the jaw. Other pain can be caused by things such as an abscess or even a tumour, so you can see why it’s important to see a doctor. Dental problems may also be a cause which is another reason why going to a dentist is a good idea.
Some sinus infections may also cause jaw joint pain which is something to think about. Jaw pain causes are often difficult to diagnose yourself as there are so many possible different reasons your jaw could hurt. Most of the time it isn’t serious, but in some cases it will be and you will need help from a doctor or a dentist if it is a dental problem.
Again, I can’t stress enough that it is vitally important that you go and visit a doctor even if you think that the problem isn’t too bad and the pain will go away soon. That may be the case, but it may also be something much more serious in which case you really need to get it looked at. Some conditions can also get worse if they are left untreated which is why going to visit a doctor as soon as possible it really important too. If you have lower jaw pain or upper jaw pain you need to see a doctor.
