Hydrogen Peroxide Teeth Whitening

If you are looking for a method of teeth whitening that dentists use then Hydrogen Peroxide Teeth Whitening may be for you. It has been used for many years now - over two decades- and is now considered safe by thge majority of dentists. You should always check with your dentist first though before using any kind of teeth whitening treatments as they may not be the right type of treatment for you. Teeth whitening trays are an example of a home teeth whitening method, and you should perhaps try these if you are looking to save money although they may not be as effective.

Side Effects Of Hydrogen Peroxide Teeth Whitening:

Although using hydrogen peroxide is considered a safe method of teeth whitening, it does have some temporary side effects that may or may not be acceptable for you. These include an increased sensitivity to heat and cold of your teeth, which is an annoyance more than anything and is usually temporary. Other side effects may include getting a sore throat and headaches although these are less common.

Sometimes if symptoms are very severe then the treatment is stopped, but in the vast majority of cases the side effects go away leaving you with white teeth. However you should never, ever use hydrogen peroxide or any other form of teeth whitening method without first getting it cleared by your dentist.

How Does It Work?

The hydrogen peroxide works via a chemical reaction when combined with the saliva covering your teeth. In most cases a form of carbamide peroxide is used to turn into hydrogen peroxide.  This causes a bleaching of the teeth making them appear whiter and fresher. There are various concentrations that are used for this purpose ranging up to around 10% from 2%. In most cases the stronger the solution the stronger the whitening as you would expect.

It is much more desirable to go and visit a dentist about your teeth whitening, although this may not always be possible because of the extra cost. Hydrogen peroxide teeth whitening gel should only be used at home if you have been told by your doctor it is safe for you.
