Home Tooth Whitening

There have been many different articles on this website about whitening your teeth, because it is something that a lot of people are really interested in. However there has not really been an article about why people are so interested in home tooth whitening. I have mentioned several times I believe it is the effect of Hollywood and glossy magazines, because so many people see celebrities that all have white teeth that we begin to believe that that is a normal thing.

The problem comes when people try and use home tooth whitening methods that aren’t safe. It is fine if you want to give at home tooth whitening kits that you can buy in your local pharmacy a go, and they definitely will have some effect in most cases, but if you’re using home remedy tooth whitening methods that you find on the Internet without first checking with a registered dental professional you are running the risk of damaging your teeth.

However there are some home tooth whitening systems that do have an effect. For example if you buy home tooth whitening trays, then in most cases over a period of time you will be able to get whiter teeth. It won’t be as effective as going to the dentist for a professional teeth whitening, but if you don’t have the money for that it is definitely possible to use trays and strips.

The best home tooth whitening usually does come from trays, but to get the really high concentration hydrogen peroxide that will give the best whitening you have to go to the dentist. Your dentist will be able to either sell you a higher concentration whitening gel to use with the tray, or offer you a whitening service, although this will cost more.

The most important thing to remember is that it is not worth damaging your teeth to try and get whiter teeth. Home tooth whitening is okay as long as you do in a safe manner and follow all the instructions of the manufacture of the whitening product that you are using. For example if you use a tray and leave it on for too long then you run the risk of damaging the outer layer of your teeth. It is much better to have strong and healthy teeth than it is to have damaged teeth that will not last. Also remember that teeth whitening is not permanent and that you will have to get it done again after a certain amount of time.
